Washington, D.C. (Dec. 21, 2017)—Better World Campaign President Peter Yeo issued the following statement today in response to a non-binding vote in the UN General Assembly protesting the relocation of the U.S. Embassy in Israel:

“The Better World Campaign has been following events surrounding today’s vote. We believe it’s imperative that the U.S. remain engaged at the UN and meet its financial obligations to the organization. American interests and those of Israel are best served by full U.S. support and engagement with the UN.

“U.S. funding to the United Nations ensures that the U.S. has a seat at the table, where issues critical to our nation’s future are decided. Whether combating violent extremism, preventing global health pandemics, or maintaining peace and security around the world, the UN remains vital to our nation’s ability to achieve our national security and economic objectives.

“Americans know this too. The overwhelming majority are supportive of the UN, as proven in a recent bipartisan poll sponsored by the Better World Campaign. Among voters overall, 88 percent say it is important for the U.S. to maintain an active role in the UN—majorities of Republicans, Democrats and Independents. In addition, more than seven in ten voters support the United States paying our dues to the United Nations on time and in full.”
