Washington, D.C. (June 6, 2018) – 28 civil society organizations sent a letter to the House and Senate appropriators urging Congress to “continue to support strong U.S. leadership at the United Nations, including by honoring our financial commitments to the organization in Fiscal Year 2019, and to oppose any efforts to rescind UN funding agreed to on a bipartisan basis as part of the FY 2018 Consolidated Appropriations Act.”
The letter comes just one week before the Appropriations Committees begins markup of FY’19 bills covering the UN, and just weeks after the Administration announced one rescissions package, with another package potentially coming in the days ahead.
“The U.S. should maintain our support to the UN, which assists millions of vulnerable people around the world and ensures a collective global response to crises, lessening the financial burden borne by U.S. taxpayers,” said Peter Yeo, President of the Better World Campaign.
