February 2, 2016
1:00 – 3:00 PM

Ambassador Keith M. Harper, U.S. Representative to the UN Human Rights Council, will speak on the next chapter for the United States and the Human Rights Council, on February 2, 1:00 – 3:00 PM, at the American Jewish Committee (AJC), 165 East 56th Street. The event is co-sponsored by AJC’s Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights and the United Nations Foundation.

Ambassador Harper will address how U.S. participation in the Human Rights Council has affected universal human rights protection while advancing American interests and challenging UN Member States’ disproportionate focus on Israel.

Felice Gaer, Director, AJC’s Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights, will moderate the conversation with Ambassador Harper. Susan Myers, Senior Vice President & New York Office Executive Director, United Nations Foundation, also will speak.

There will be ample time for Q and A during the program.

The United States became a member of the Human Rights Council in 2009 and served two three-year terms ending in December 2015. According to Council rules, it must spend one year off the Council. The Obama administration has announced the United States will seek reelection during 2016.
