Washington, D.C. (Jan. 13, 2021) — The Better World Campaign issued the following statement on the nomination of Ambassador Samantha Power to be USAID Administrator:

“President-Elect Joe Biden’s selection of Ambassador Samantha Power to be the next USAID Administrator is a wise and inspired choice,” said Peter Yeo, President of the Better World Campaign.

“Ambassador Power brings a unique set of skills to this position. She is a seasoned diplomat and scholar who has seen first-hand the vital work of the United Nations, which often works in close cooperation with USAID.

“After a period of tumult within the agency, Ambassador Power will be tasked with fortifying partnerships with UN entities like UNFPA, WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, as well as other UN agencies present in humanitarian emergencies. By working together to reduce poverty and protect the vulnerable, Ambassador Power will be reinforcing bedrock American principles while advancing our country’s interests.

“Elevating USAID to be part of the National Security Council, as the President-elect did today, underscores its importance. We look forward to working with Ambassador Power in the days ahead as the U.S re-establishes its leadership role on the global stage.”
