Coalition Letter Supporting Peace, Recovery, and Justice in the Central African Republic

Share

On April 22, the Better World Campaign, along with a coalition of NGO partners, sent a letter to both the House and Senate in support of peace, recovery, and justice in the Central African Republic (CAR).

The letter specifically called for full funding for the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in FY’23. MINUSCA was deployed in 2013 to halt mass atrocities and rebuild the country.

Central Africans continue to experience mass violence and instability at the hands of armed
groups, while government forces and their allies have also been responsible for atrocities
against civilians. The NGOs emphasized the tenuous situation on the ground and the need for continued U.S. investment, including $2.577 billion in FY’23. The letter also called for lifting the statutory 25 percent cap that has prevented the U.S. from paying our UN peacekeeping assessments in full.

Making a sustained investment will ensure MINUSCA has the resources it needs to promote peace and stability in CAR.
