Washington, D.C. (July 28, 2010) – Peter Yeo, Executive Director of the Better World Campaign, released the following statement today on the endorsement of Carman Lapointe-Young to serve as the new head of the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) by the UN General Assembly:

“The news today that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s appointment of Carman Lapointe-Young to serve as the head of the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services has been endorsed by the UN General Assembly. The Secretary-General’s action to fill the position in a timely manner reinforces his commitment to bring greater transparency and accountability to the UN.

“The work of OIOS is so incredibly important to ensuring that people have confidence in the UN as an institution and the quick action by the General Assembly confirms this. We hope that Lapointe-Young will work quickly to fill the remaining vacancies in OIOS and utilize her oversight experience to improve the work of the UN and protect it from fraud and abuse.”
