On November 20, 2019, Better World Campaign President Peter Yeo testified on Capitol Hill before the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Multilateral International Development, Multilateral Institutions, and International Economic, Energy, and Environmental Policy.
Yeo discussed the need for the U.S. to continue to remain fully engaged in the United Nations in order to remain a leader on the world’s stage, which includes paying our dues to the UN and UN Peacekeeping on time and in full. When the U.S. fails to do so, Yeo stressed, we not only contribute to a cash crunch that limits the UN’s effectiveness, but we also cede influence to countries that don’t share our values and interests, particularly Russia and China.
The bottom line: the U.S. needs to stand tall at the United Nations and ensure that our vision for the organization remains the same as it did nearly 75 years ago.
