The Better World Campaign congratulates former Congressman Mike Waltz on his advancement to a full Senate vote for confirmation as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. A decorated Green Beret and longtime public servant, Ambassador-designate Waltz will bring his national security experience to one of the most consequential diplomatic roles in the world at a time of growing global instability.
Throughout his Senate confirmation hearing on July 15, Waltz underscored the importance of U.S. leadership at the UN, particularly in countering the influence of authoritarian regimes, strengthening technical bodies like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as well as restoring the UN to its core mission of peace and security. He spoke candidly about the need for greater transparency and accountability within the UN system, while expressing confidence in the potential of the UN, acknowledging that it is “one place where everyone can talk… and resolve conflicts.”
“We welcome Ambassador-designate Waltz’s recognition that the UN remains a critical forum for international dialogue and conflict resolution,” said Peter Yeo, President of the Better World Campaign. “We look forward to working with him to ensure continued funding and U.S. leadership drives reform, upholds our values and strengthens America’s ability to lead on the global stage.”
As the UN approaches its 80th anniversary, BWC is committed to constructive collaboration with the U.S. Mission to, in the words of the next Ambassador, “make the UN great again.”
“We look forward to working with Ambassador-designate Waltz to ensure continued funding and U.S. leadership drives reform, upholds our values and strengthens America’s ability to lead on the global stage.”
