Washington, D.C. (Dec. 3, 2020) — President of the Better World Campaign Peter Yeo congratulates Representative Rosa DeLauro, who was named Chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

“Rep. DeLauro has long been a champion of the mission and purpose of the United Nations, understanding that U.S. engagement is in our country’s best interests. Whether advocating for child and women’s health and the UN Population Fund, or global health more broadly, Rep. DeLauro has always been a trusted ally and a visionary leader,” Yeo said.

“Her skills and experience make her an exceptionally capable leader of the Appropriations Committee,” Yeo added.

The House Appropriations Committee allocates funding for the functions of the federal government, including international aid.

“Rep. DeLauro has a well-earned reputation for working across the aisle,” Yeo said, “which will be especially valuable as our country resumes a leadership role on the world stage. The U.S. will need to make good on its promises, including paying the United Nations the dues we owe. “

In recent polling conducted by the Better World Campaign, a majority of American voters said that it is important for the U.S. to maintain an active role in the UN, a finding consistent across Republicans, Independents, and Democrats.
